I am very versatile

Products, strategies, behaviors, and people all have a tendency to change. The data suggests that we’re not so fond of change; however, the inclination toward innovation may be more powerful than we realize. What was a perfect business model and marketing strategy 5 years ago may have fallen by the wayside with regards to industry norms. In order to remain competitive, we might need to adjust or optimize our products or even reinvent the wheel altogether. This is where my expertise comes in; it’s where my drive comes from.

I grew up with a business understanding

When I was young, my father was a carpenter and he ran a successful construction company. His work ethic rubbed off on me, this collided with my curiosity about how money is made and how businesses are run. I started out working for many small to medium family-run operations—antiques shops, clothing stores, a Pokemon store (best job ever), landscape gardening, and factory work. I also took a business class for two years.

All this experience gave me two major advantages. The first was the ability to understand fundamental business concepts like profit/loss, product versus service and what customer service truly means. The second advantage was exposure, which led to an understanding of wildly different customer groups. I not only got a feel for how to communicate with my audiences, but also for what their preferences and pain points were.

I have a lot of varying experience

I’ve had a wide variety of jobs and worked in several design capacities. I’ve served as Art Director at a small ad agency, creating advertising campaigns for many clients day in and day out. I’ve also held the lead creative position at a startup, challenged with growing the company while maintaining our creative vision. And I’m currently the senior creative at an insurance agency that provides corporate branding efforts on both a local and global scale. I’ve done everything from logo design to strategic brand restructuring.

Throw me a curve ball, I like to adapt and pivot

Just because you’re having trouble with a challenge, doesn’t mean you can’t look at it as an opportunity. For example, your email campaign isn’t working? Well let’s look into it, let’s check open rates, copy, creative, let’s AB test various elements to improve, let’s work on the subject line, oh—it turns out that customers prefer text messages instead. So let’s pivot and try something new!

Let’s try some small experiments to see what engages your audience and what doesn’t, then we’ll create something even better.

This is where I go into my design hovel and develop the creative to carry out our plan. We use this time to refine, deploy and optimize so that we put our best foot forward.

Analyze the outcome

This is where we measure our success. Go over the results in detail to see where we have room for new opportunities and to see which direction we are headed next.
